If you're in Mexico City's Juarez neighborhood, make a beeline for La Rifa Chocolateria. This hip shop is a vital stop for anyone curious about the art and culture of Mexican chocolate. It’s more than just a place to buy chocolate and merch; it's a sensory and educational journey. La Rifa prides itself on transparency, sourcing almost all its cacao beans from Chiapas and Tabasco, with a fully traceable and transparent supply chain. It’s a compelling testament to quality and ethical sourcing, highly recommended.

Great milk chocolate! It's not overly sweet and allows you to really taste the cacao. You see the tiny chocolate bits on the bottom of the cup because it's freshly grounded.

Fair trade chocolate produced in house from cacao sourced from several regions of Mexico. You must try the “washed” chocolate, it was incredible.

AMAZING experience! I hosted a group trip of 11 people and we had a chocolate workshop here. Monica was outstanding and the experience was by far everyone's favorite of the trip. Aside from the chocolate being delicious, we learned so much about the process, how the farmers care for the trees, fermentation, and so much more. It was about 1.5 hours and we were having fun the whole time. It ended with us being able to grind our own cacao beans and making some chocolate. We also had been there a few days before and returned later. Their chocolate drinks are so good. This will definitely be part of my Mexico City itinerary each time. Muchas gracias for accommodating our group and giving us the deep dive on chocolate.

For full transparency, I didn't love everything I ordered, but I'm still giving it a 5. What a great experience. I can't recommend it enough to anyone visiting CDMX.

Best chocolateria in Mexico City. Great selection of cacao and chocolates on display, all with an amazing story. You have to try their chocolate con leche, be there in the golden hour for the most magical moment in the small roundabout, when everyone is quietly enjoying themselves and the last sunlight of the day. The people working there are immensely kind and knowledgeable, so ask for recommendations.

Visiting this shop was an absolute highlight of my trip to CDMX. After drinking chocolate here, I have a much deeper appreciation for cacao and have made it a nearly weekly habit to make a cup for myself and/or my guests in a similar way to how it's served here. They also sell excellent chocolate bars that make great gifts.

We went here as part of our food tour. Such an awesome find. Single origin traceable cocao. I could spend a whole day there. The chocolate tamale dessert is just incredible.
